We now have 4 clubs recieving a Prince's ransom of cash for participating in a now grossly overated European club championship (Champions league) thus meaning that only the top few teams of the Premiership can afford to spend rediculous amounts of ca$h on players and their wages whereas the middle to bottom of the table clubs quite simply cant do that, sure theres a few 'middle' Premiership clubs that do break the bank with the occasional £8 million transfer but these are most certainly exceptions and not the rule.
Long gone are the days when the European Cup actually meant something 'really special' back in the days when only the Leauge champions of their respective European leagues got into the elite cup, we now see an entarage of teams who are quite simply so poor that the Champions Leauge is now almost laughable at times.
How can a team finish 4th in the English Premiership and still qualify for the Champions leauge? isnt that a contradiction in itself? i thought that the Champions leauge was for the Champions of each league in Europe meaning that if you finish 2nd (not to mentions 3rd or 4th) then your'e not a Champion, simple as that.
As things currently stand there will always 4 teams out of a realistic 6 or 7 teams in England each year that far and away earn much more money than the remainder of the Premiership via qualifying for the Champions leauge, slowly this may turn the English Premiership into the Scottish Premiership with very few 'good' teams in it as the best just get better and richer whilst the rest just play bridesmaid on a comparative shoestring.
All of this will ofcourse inevitably continue to filter down through the divisions of the English league as the rich get richer and the poor...well, you know the rest.
The old European Cup was what it was all about, its farcicle now.
More variety without overcrowding the competitions.
Ah well
