You can sign up to Freeola free, and use their Domain names and E-mail and Web Space and PHP and all that, but it will cost you something.
You see, the way Freeola works is like any other free ISP, by the cost of the phone call, and to ensure they make some money, Freeola only allow you to upload to your Web Space via its dial-up number.
So it will cost you, but no fixed fee, just depends on how much you need to upload and how often. If you just upload at weekends, it'll cost you a penny a minute, which isn't much if you think about it. Say you upload for 25 minutes per week, and do it at the weekend, it works out at about £1 a month, £12 a year for Unlimited Web Space, PHP, CGI and SSI capabilities, unlimited E-mail addresses as well as E-mail forwarding, etc. Oh, and not forgetting you get unlimited bandwidth, which means you won't find your Web Site locked away if too many people visit :o)
So, it's not completly free, but it certianly one of the best you are going to get at a low low price. It just depends on how much you plan on updating.
If you do plan on uploading a lot and often, then at least you know you can't run out of Web Space, as there isn't a set limit, and you can always add the Freeola number to your BT friends and family discounts (do they still do that).
Only problem with freeola is if your on broadband, as they only offer Web Space to Freeola Broadband customers.
We've asked a few times about monthly pay services, besides being a Freeola Broadband customer, but as of yet that hasn'tr happened.
But for a penny a minute, you certainly get a lot, so I would look into it.
You can use one of their many Domains for free, or buy one for £20 or something. True, you can get Domains cheaper else where (a lot cheaper) but they only mostly forward to other places, or give you little web space to work with.
Always the case, you get what you pay for.

Does it cost to sign up to Freola? Do I have to buy anything before I'm allowed to sign up?

Oh yes, too true..
A lot of people complain that they have to dial-up to Upload though, but lets face it, nothing is free anymore.
