However, I think that selling this as a Napoleon beater is probably leading people in the wrong direction. It does have similarities; it’s aiming for a teen audience and the humour is just as offbeat, but it doesn’t really have the same feel as Dynamite.
Sasquatch Dumpling Gang is, at heart, a teen buddy movie almost in the style of a teenage Goonies but with an injection of modern wacky humour. It has all the usual characters you'd expect, from the complete geek to the metaller, pretty much playing on stereotypes but at the same time making the characters realistic rather than just cardboard cutouts. The film also manages to come up with some funny situation comedy at the same time and there are some choice standout moments which I found myself watching again.
What Sasquatch doesn't have is a really engaging storyline. In a way, it doesn't really matter. The comedy drives the movie and the characters don't need to go far out of their surroundings for the film to work, but it does cause a problem with holding the viewers interest throughout the movie. To counter this there are some clever film tricks, such as recaps from different points of view, which show events in a different light and these are actually fairly entertaining.
The film is still a good watch and some of the one-liners will stay with you (and most probably pass into cult status) but overall Sasquatch Dumpling Gang is not something that you'll watch over and over again. Good, but no Napoleon Dynamite.
