If you could make a perfect website, what would it look like?
Speed, accessability, content, usability, intuative navigation, design, colour... The list can go on. It's just like asking, describe your perfect game? Descrbe your perfect car? The answers would all be different as people have different ideas, needs and wants for what they may see as perfect.
Users come with a predetermined idea of what they want to achieve, how they want to do it, and how quick they wish to succeed in their aims. How do you create a "perfect" website when the user is out of our control?
I have yet to find my "perfect" website, but then, I don't know what I would want from it. I think my main importance would be content. it wouls have to capture my attention, give me what I was looking for but at the same time, be easy and quick to navigate.
I build sites fort he academic market, and wlthough to you, they may not be "perfect", for our target audience they can be seen as this. Again it's horses for courses. Again, it comes down to content.
Then there's the technical side. What would be seen as "perfect" then? Ideally it should work on ALL browsers, at ALL speeds at ALL colour depths and resolutions, but unfortunately this is merely a dream. You could only really hope for "Gracefull Degredation" in retro technology!
Many people have spent years trying to define what is a perfect website... You mention Guestbooks, Forums and the like? Why? To some of you this may be ideal, but to some, like myself, I see no real need for a guestbook although a fourm would be ideal if you wanted to create a sense of community and have some form of interaction with your target audience.
This could pan out to be an interesting conversation. It's very similar to one I had in a different forum some time ago with a few guys from 2Advanced, Domino and PixlePerfect... Could be interesting to see if this becomes a "What I would like to see in MY perfect site?" or "How to create a 'Perfect' website?"
So my perfect site would have lots of sport and gaming on it. A place for people to have a good time (with a few games maybe). It would have cool colours, ie black with blue or black and green.
Mostly though, I'd like it run fast, thats the top of the list for me. If the things like a Forum, Guestbook or Contact Form work instantly, or there abouts then thats more important than a site that looks good to me.
Obviously you can't neglect its look, and I certianly don't mean a that looks bad is safe it it runs fast, but for me, speed od doing what I want doing is more important than how it looks doing it ..... if that makes sence.
Oh yeah and the Domain Name would rock too :o)
What about you Alexj17, what would be your perfect Web Site??
nah, it would be simplistic, so no clogging up with massive graphics, no matter how good they may be. Not too much Flash, just where appropriate, if at all.
I like whites and greys, and blue and oranges.
It would be one of those sites that looks pleasing but is very open and simplistic :D
And yes, i will shut up now. :D
