i like the idea of the chipping that alcofrolic talked about. the non- hardwired chip that can jsut be put in and out, but where can u get this done in the uk? i dont really want any hardwiring done and i dont fancy trying it myself, the only place i could have maybe had it done ( a small independant shop in Romford) has closed, also i mainly want it chipped so i can get Phatasy star online and animal crossing

Chipping is illegal if the intention is to play copied games.

It is even illegal to sell some games outside of the region they were intended for.

However, import websites aren't breaking those laws because the sales take place in the region of the game's intentional useage, and is then later exported to you.

Chipping the console itself, although invalidating your warranty, isn't illegal as you own the console you purchased (except for rights of replication, patents, etc). Just chipping it to use illegal products is in itself illegal.

If you chip it for import, then that doesn't matter, but if it's for cheap games, then it does.

how will this put companies out of busines?

at the end of the day they still make money on the games
Everybody knows that nintendo, microsoft, sega and sony do not make money on consoles, they make money on games, so why would they give a damn if a game is sold here or through an import company?

chipping is not illegal.

if it was then companies would not be allowed to sell them!

There are currently no laws stating that chipping or modifying consoles can not be done, it is down to you, the console owner whether or not you want to do it to your machine.

yes, you will invalidate your warranty, but to be honest how many of you out there ever have to use this "warranty"?

thing is my warranty would have expired in september if i hadnt had it chipped so i havent lost out anyway.

www.madeiragames.com chip both gamecube and xbox, along with PS2 and other consoles.

Chipping's illegal and will invalidate your warrenty. Wait for a freeloader or action replay - don't put companies out of business for a bit of pocket money.
