"Well that was underwhelming"

Watched "Ring" over the weekend, the original Japanese one.

It wasn't very interesting I'm afraid. The video was weird and a little unsettling with the backwards crawling people but apart from that it left me peering into the bottom of my Pringle tube and thinking about how to defeat the French Mime-Midget on NOLF2.
The only bit that made me even slightly unsettled was the crawling out of the tv bit at the end.

And if the original wasn't very good, christ only knows what the Americanised remake will be like.

Ring - It's just not very good.

Don't know, and don't particularly care. It doesn't stop the fact that many of the films ideas, where 'borrowed' from other films. That's not a bad thing though, I liked it it's just I felt I've most of it before in other horror films.

I believe the Japanese "Ring" came out before Blair Witch... didn't it?

I thought it was all right, it just borrowed allot of ideas from the likes of Blair Witch and poltergeist, and just didn't feel as original as I was told it would be.

Good thing you didn't rent the other two movies then Goatboy, Ring 2 is pretty much the same as the original, and just as slow, and though I haven't actually watched it, Ring 0 is supposed to be a prequel and what's worse it's supposed to be more of a love story than a horror film.

I was going to get that one as well, but it was out.
Thank god I didnt rent Ring 2 and Ring 0 just in case the 1st one was good.
It lacked any sort of tension apart from the tv-crawling bit.

"A spooky well!"
"I'll go down"
"Alright"
**Seven Hours later**
"I'm tired"
"I have 30 mins left before I die"
"Your turn down here"
"Alright"
"You ok?"
"I just found a dead person. I'm going to hug it"
"Alright"
"That's sorted then"
"Phew, I'm going home now."
"Alright"

And then it goes on for another 20 mins.
Arsecandle. Total bumwick movie.

"Go down that well."
"Something scary might happen, but I'll do it anyway."

[several hours later]

"Nothing scary did happen, but I found some old lady's hair."
"Okay, let's go and watch that video... no, wait..."

Want a freaky Japanese horror flick? Try Audition. Pretty slow, but a gear ending.
