The Premiership can be the cruelest coldest place in English football but its the only place to be.

The following is an attempt to share my emotional rollercoaster ride that some of you may be able to empathise with as supporters of a Premiership football club.

Birmingham City... 16 years out of the top flight, and never really what anyone would refer to as 'a succesful club' finally got promoted last May by beating Norwich in the play-off final in Cardiff, i cried so many tears of relief that night that i feared i may have used up my personal reservoir of emotion, how wrong i was.

Often we are told that there is a huge gulf between the Nationwide 1st division and the Premiership and only when you sample the elite leauge do you appreciate just how true this really is.

I used to say things like...

'i would give anything for Blues to make the Premiership, just 1 season would do, it wouldnt matter if we got relegated the next year i just want to see Birmingham in the Premiership' (pure desperation for success talking)

...but now that we are finally there i can tell you truthfully that if Birmingham City did get relegated this season i would be totally heartbroken, words must be almost impossible to share how it must feel to any fan that has experienced such dramas, its more than a game, really it is.

Were now around 1/4 into the English Premiership season and ive cried every single time that Birmingham have scored this season, they are tears of joy, relief and hope all rolled into one, i know that each goal scored is a step closer to survival as goals are hard to come by in this quality divison and the difference between a penalty scored and a penalty missed could make the difference between playing at Arsenal next year and playing at Grimsby (with respect to Grimsby fans).

Realistically i know that Birmingham will be fighting relegation just the same as perhaps 8 other teams will be. Its gonna be 9 months of total ups and downs with many tears shed in celebration and perhaps many more shed in desperation.

Today in a home game against Bolton it was already deemed a 'must win' game, fortunately we did manage to win, but for 60 minutes it could have gone either way and the tension was simply too much to cope with at times, defeat would be a disaster, a draw not much better but something at least, but a win? a precious Premiership win? well let me tell you that every win so far has felt like christmas did when i was 6 years old, staying in the Premiership is gonna be alot harder than getting there (and it was difficult to escape Division one i can tell you).

Im not sure what state many of us will be in when the season is over, im already on the verge of a footballing breakdown, if a team gets relegated the players can (and often do) leave and join a new club, but for the fans well its a different story for us isnt it.

The Premiership, Dream maker - Heart breaker.

What about any West Ham, Sunderland, Bolton, Charlton, Villa, WBA, Southampton fans... come and share your thoughts and emotions about what its like to follow a Premiership football club that could be in the relegation shakeup at the end of the season.

What are your present opinions regarding your clubs survival and try to describe how it feels knowing that your clubs number might be up this season and you may fall into the Nationwide.

Interesting replies which i both agree with but for different reasons, yes Cisse and Savage are the grafters and their sole purpose is to be the warriors of the midfield and make life as hard as possible for the opposition (its working great so far) neither are very creative but both are solid players that give nothing away cheaply.

Birmingham do need a more creative player in the miidle tho, someone like Merson would have been great for 2 years, why he went to Pompey i'll never know, he is still Premiership quality without any doubt.

I agree that Bolton and WBA are nailed on to get relegated but im not convinced that Sunderland will tumble with them, i think that the 3rd remaining relegation place is open to as many as 5 or 6 teams Birmingham and indeed Aston Villa (sorry Foreman) cant be ruled out for relegation, altho my heart tells me that Birmingham will just survive the drop its certainly gonna be a very close run thing.

Right now looking at the leauge table im sure there must be fans of 8 teams who dont feel too comfortable and perhaps are already feeling the shakes.

Every single game feels like a cup final and never once did i feel nervous in the 1st division, the fear of relegation is much more frightening than the failure of promotion, Birmingham failed in the play-offs 2 years running before finally making it 3rd time lucky, altho the loss in the playoffs cut like a knife the pain went away when the new season kicked off as new hope was generated, im sure that relegation wouldnt be so easy to get over, its simply not an option but some of us will experience this season, football is cruel at the best of times.

Cisse is not there to create chances though, him and savage are there to beat up the midfield and win the midfield battle. They have Devlin and Ladazaris to provide the opportunities as well as chip in with a goal or two.

Birmingham are doing quite good at the moment and I think that you will need to buy a good midfielder to help you avoid a relegation battle. I think that Cisse is a good strong tackler, just like Boateng but doesn't create many opportunities for your strikers.

I think that you can survive and here are the teams who you can finish above:

WBA
Bolton
Sunderland

and maybe Charlton
