Games publishers are targetting 25,000 file sharers, apparently demanding £300 or risking a court action.

Are you one of these?

Whether you are or aren't, will it make you think twice before downloading illegally? Be it music, tv shows, films or games?

It may be that they don't go ahead with most cases, but putting the story out there in the media might be enough to scare some people off of doing any illegal downloading.

Scare tactics aren't always the best way of improving your company's profile, of course, but I think they're just trying to hit out at anyone at the moment, possibly because they feel they can't hit the right targets.

Ohhh that's nasty, but I still maintain that the Industries attack the wrong targets. They need to firstly target the sources of the pirating, torrent sites etc. I bet 90% of those who are about to be targeted will not even realise they were uploading as well as downloading, and lets be realistic these "threats" have had no real noticeable impact on illegal content, why would this suddenly change?

Secondly why don't they try to compete? Itunes has proven that the demand is out there, so why not tap into it instead of cut it's throat?
