Origin is a joy to look at, half hand-drawn, half CGI backdrops are often stunningly beautiful, enough to warrant a purchase of the movie alone (and prey they bring out a High Definition Blu-ray release), the music is sweeping and majestic, matching the landscapes in its beauty.
However, the jist of the story has been seen before, a fair few times in the world of Anime alone. That's not to say that this version isn't worth watching or that it fails to entertain. The story follows the awakening of a girl, Toola, from the past. She finds out that the world has been taken back by the Earth after too many environmental disasters and that this has caused the breakdown of society. It's up to the girl and the young boy who finds her to work out how to re-unite the warring factions of humans and learn to live in peace with the planet and also to defeat the evil menace who is desperate to tear everything apart.
There are no really big twists, no big reveal, and yet it's still a good story which takes place in a beautiful but dangerous environment. So, though it doesn't win any awards for story-telling, it's still well worth watching and deserves some attention from even the most ardent anime fan who may have seen all this before somewhere else.
Because the generic story does let it down, I'd have to give the film 7/10, but it's still good entertainment.
