I suppose this is a cry for help more than anything else. I'm a student, and contrary to popular belief I have to do quite a lot of work. However, in my house there are 3 PCs (with a network hub and the internet), a PS2 and some gaming fanatics - including me.
The problem is obvious! How am I supposed to get my work done while still getting the 'fix' I need from games? If I'm working, thats fine - I just keep working for hours if need be. But then I might need to turn on my PC to print off a sheet or something and thats the beginning of the downward slope.
It just sits there, humming quietly (or loudly in my PCs case) to itself. It starts to tease me:
"You want to play don't you?"
or
"Wow! Wouldn't a multiplayer game be fun right now..."
Ususally I can resist this sort of direct assault, but years of developement have made the PC an insiduous opponent:
"Come on - just a quick game. It'll only take five minutes..."
I stare at the buttons. That pretty window key. I press it and BAM. Before I know it I've played a couple of hours of Warcraft 3 or something.
If that wasn't enough - my housemate owns a PS2. Which is also a DVD player! More temptation.
Anyway, what I would like to know is this:
Is there a game out there that will keep me satisfied, but not hook me for more than a couple of hours? I've tried all sorts. In FPSs I always want to know whats round the next corner. RTSs are a definate no! Even minesweeper and solitair hook me for ages ("I just gotta try and beat my high score...").
So please. Is there?

I taught myself HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Perl, CGI and some Visual Basic and C++, along with advanced Office skills, and am currently teaching myself CIMA.

It does not prove that I have discipline, only that I have a near unquenchable thirst for knowledge.

Having discipline is being able to do what you NEED to do without anything disrupting you. Voluntary tunnel-vision.

Ah, to have a life where distractions can be so easilly ignored!

Your best bet is Crazy Taxi :D Good fun for five minutes... then ya get a little bored. A few hours later you`ve forgotten about being bored, and use it for another five minutes, then get bored again. Easy. :D

Alternatively... I can try not to make it too obvious when I`m using my PS2. I`ll give a quick knock on your door and see if ya want a go, but I`ll only ask twice rather than the usual three times.
