TB, as he is know to his admirers, has provided an exclusive expose of his rise to the very top, in providing voices for cartoons and films. He claims that his first real break came, when he persuaded a close friend of his to allow him to create a new character for the cartoon show that he produced. He was reported to say “I will give you the most loveable, funny, wacky character ever. Kids and adults alike will love him. I will call him: Scrappy Doo”. His friend was initially reticent about this proposal but was soon worn down by TB’s relentless threats to reveal his friend’s drug addiction and relented. TB claims that the introduction of Scrappy “was a turning point for animation and people would simply watch Scooby Doo just to see the plucky pup. The laughter that Scrappy generated by his antics, always ready to fight needlessly against far superior opponents thus jeopardising his and the gangs lives, could have run fifty Windmills for an hour.”
Next came the introduction of another kid’s show- Godzilla. TB was heavily involved with the show’s development and created a special character for the show, against the initial wishes of the producers. His pitch stated that, “I will give you the most loveable, funny, wacky character ever. Kids and adults alike will love him. I will call him: Godzuki”. Just think of the loss to the world if TB hadn’t been able to threaten the producers about revealing their communist philosophies to the American Government. Godzuki formed the crux of every episode, as the scientific ocean-research gang always had their Godzilla calling device broken (somehow) at the worst possible moment and he was thus forced to summon his mate, Godzilla, by making a hilarious noise, one that sounded like a dying Rhino. In fact TB goes as far to say that Godzuki “was a turning point for animation and people would simply watch Godzilla just to see the plucky pint sized flying lizard. The laughter that Godzuki generated by his antics, always ready to fight needlessly against far superior opponents thus jeopardising his and the gangs lives, could have run five hundred hair dryers for an hour.”
His next two projects met with equal success, the scaredy cat in He-Man and Snarff from Thundercats.
The denouement of his career came with the chance to shine in a major Hollywood production. This film was one of the most highly anticipated of all time and it attained legendary status due to TB’s introduction of “possibly the funniest, clumsiest, heart warming, genuine and funkadacious character ever!”.
In TB’s own words he claims “Initially he rejected my proposal outright. However I pointed out that I might have to let it slip his previous occupation as a Circus Clown and he just folded, right there and then. Anyway his character, Darth Maul, was never going to be popular enough to make scene after scene of fantastic light sabre duels with Jedi masters work, so I cut them from the film and replaced them with laughter”.
“In retrospect everyone must be thanking me for doing so and giving the world Jar-Jar Binks.”
The man, the laughter, the legend.
