I know that Man U are guaranteed their place in the second group round, but the team likely to face Maccabi Haifa tonight is just short of a joke.

I tipped Mads Timm for a place in the first team in maybe two or three years, and it looks like he may get his debut tonight instead - in a champion's league game.

9 first team players missing (though mostly due to injury, and several of them only minor) will more than likely see a lively Haifa side drub Man U into an embarrassing Champions league defeat.

Very dissapointing to say the least - and i'm not just on about our performance overall last-night.

I was dissapointed to see how and who United started with.
I thought that the x-mas tree formation could work, but we just didn't have the right players in the midfield for it to do so.
Since he made his debut last week, Richardson looks to me to be more of a defensive left-sided player rather than an attacking one. I think he could do well as an attacker in the future, but playing of-to-the-side of the main striker was never going to work with him for me.

Forlan was bloomin; unlucky! What an effort for a player who 'apparently' cannot finnish to save his life!!

Ricardo was unlucky - especially with that unstoppable 2nd goal.
That probably hasn't helped his confidence though, but he does look very comfortable with the ball at his feet - kinda like Barthez.

I still think we should've seen more players rested, since we were already through. Forlan needed to start, and I think Gary Neville needed the game too after that foot injury, and so we could see what he's like as a Captain. But to me, Solskjaer, Ferdinand, Scholes and Silvestre should've also been left-out as they are also regular players in our squad - just like Veron, Giggs and Beckham this season.

I really wanted to see Nardiello start though! i've heard so-many great things about him in the last year or-so, but he's never been given the chance. He should've started alongside Forlan in a 2-man attack I think.
But what about Danny Webber?? Why isn't he getting his chances??
I know he's on-loan at Watford right now but it's clear that we need something else in our attack, and without the abillity to sign players as-of-now, he and Nardiello could be just what van Nistelrooy needs.

Dissapointing performance overall. We were lacking the creativity of Veron and Giggs in the midfield, aswell-as Beckham's high work-rate.
Why on Earth does he persist in play Phil Neville centrally there???
He's not Roy Keane, and he's certainly not a Nicky Butt either!
Why couln't one of the younger defensive-midfielders play there? Or maybe Rio could've, giving another kiddy (like Roche) the chance to play in the backline? I still cannot believe David May's still at the club! Surely he doesn't think he still has a chance of making it into the first team!!???

That's about it for now. Hopefully Fergie will take-note of this and consider it for next week's final Group Match. Either that or he'll spit his gum at me... :P

You seem to forget, that Man Utd are a genuinely bad team anyway, and would have lost regardless of who played :D

Diego played very well, unfortunatly our midfield was the biggest piece of s**t ever today and they ran through us like a sieve. Some stunnung goals by Maccabi Haifa though, the score line was flattering to them, but they played well, so weldone. Also a big weldone to Newcastle, great showing and come back in their league, so come on you geordies! :)

i guess you obviously never followed him when he played for Independiente otherwise you'd know that he is actually a very good striker. Maybe if Ferguson played him upfront with RVN or Solksjaer from the start of matches instead of like the last 10 minutes in a lone striker role while the rest of the team sits back we may actually see how good he is. No striker no matter how good he is will score goals without help from his team mates.

*claps hands for ITV*
puting the newcastle match on instead of the man u one.
I suppose they changed their minds after they qualified and newcastle's champions league progress balances on this game.

the first vaugely good thing they've done recently after fouling up ITV digital and doing over the football league with the television rights money.

Scholes has the highest percentage of shots on target of any player in the premiership. Maybe he should really be playing up front? He will hardly be out of his depth in a striking role.

As for Forlan, well we all know he can't score, so perhaps he shouldn't be playing up front :)

Looking at the paper today it looks like the young lad Richardson is getting a game from the start. Should be a good experience and learning curve for him. However if what else the papers say is true what the hell is Ferguson thinking?
Defence is fine then suddenly we get to the midfield.

ML - Fortune (fine so far)
MC - P. Neville (why he's playing midfield at moment god knows, actually why he's in the squad at all god knows)
MC - Richardson (get the young lad experience while you can that's a good move)
MR - FORLAN!!

Now this is what peeves me off. Diego Forlan is a striker he is not a right winger why Ferguson sticks him there (this is about the 3rd time now) i don't know why. Sure if there was no choice then i could see the point but he puts Scholes up front with Solskjaer. Why? Scholes is a midfielder a very attack minded midfielder but his primary position is in the middle of the park. You could have Richarson out on right and put Scholes in the middle and then put Forlan up front where he actually belongs and especially after scoring against Villa his confidence will be really high.
But of course Ferguson in his infinite wisdom decides to play silly buggers and put him in a position he's not comfortable. Show some sense Fergie.

Its still a pretty decent team that is likely to start though.

The defense will look pretty strong with O'shea, Ferdinand, Silvestre and Gary Neville as captain. Scholes should play with P.neville along side him...P.neville has looked OKAY in the middle when he has played there. And Forlan and Solskjaer should be upfront...

Doesnt look too bad really.
