Are you sitting comfortably ??

Last Friday my hard-drive gave up the ghost with no warning, I have a new one, installed Windows and everything else etc all hunky-dory ... except ... my Broadband Connection.

I tried reinstalling from the CD but got an error message saying all leadds were connectede OK but could not ping with outside world (there is life outside Romford ??). Phoned NTL Tech Support, found out that because I had already registered I couldn't register a second time - fair enough, was talked through a couple of things by Techinal chap. Alledgedly it all boils down to my connection not being able to get a IP Adress from my set top box. Tried powering off for 5 mins etc etc, did this a few times as suggested to try and kick start it so to speak - no joy. I have now been told there must be a problem with the service in my area (My IP address is a standard one that Windows loads up as it can't get one from NTL)

Is my plonker being pulled and has anyone else had this sort of problem when they've had to reinstall Windows ?

Upto Friday I couldn't fault the NTL service, now I just want my connection back :(

I can't go back to my 56k modem for no-one.

I spoke (at length) with Tech Support last night and my problem is that my Ethernet card will not bind with TCP/IP, tried uninstalling, removing card rebooting etc etc etc
Still no joy, so annoying when everything worked fine this time last week.
Is anyone out there an expert on Netweork Cards/ Binding etc ??

I live in hope .......

Hahahaha!

You live in Romford!

I used to live in Romford but I don't now!

I'm getting NTL installed soon but I don't know when...

They had to unblock a lot of mud from the cable hole, but if they are as eager to help me with any problems as they are to get me signed up then I got nothing to worry about!

The Romford area service is actually quite good, seing as you got someone around, I've had loads of people testing stuff and all that!

And that site will of course have more bad stuff than good, it's made for bad experiences and everyone has thoses with tehir ISPs. NTL probably have a lot more happy people than unhappy people and that site really does them no justice at all!

Thanks Jive, I have seen that site, everything was fine with NTL until fateful Friday when my hard drive became an expensive paper weight !.
NTL has been round to my house this afternoon and confirmed connection etc is OK so just need to sort out WIndows - I love you Bill Gates !

Hehe....don't worry, your not the only person to have been affected by the wonderful world of NTL.

Have you checked out their "alternative" forums at www.nthellworld.com you'll find quite a few people who aren't exactly happy with the service provided and I'm sure if you post on there you'll get some good advice.

Good luck :-)
