Here begins the rant (apologies in advance as I get passionate about such things): I cannot see why anyone should feel it neccessary to phone a complete stranger on the end of a phone line, to cry about their dead hamster or goldfish. I know we are "a nation of animal lovers" (a tag we want to get rid of due to frequent misinterpretation) but I will not accept us wasting money on trite like this. I had pets, they died, I felt bad for a while, no big deal really. I love animals and hate cruelty to them. Animals however are not people, people matter more.
Now many will argue that some people have nothing in their lives but their pets. The loss they feel is genuine when they die. I accept that. However we must be capable of accepting that the money spent on this ludicrous idea is best allocated elsewhere. If anyone phones this line they should be greeted with a recorded message saying "This money could have been used to support a charity that helps kids with Luekaemia, however due to your emotional irrationality over your stupid dead dog (that everyone hated because it yaped incently and produced stools twice it's own body mass on the pavement all the time) we are unable to fund such beneficial causes." Press one to continue.
One.
Press one to hear a poorly worded message consoling you about your dog who has passed away.
Press two to to hear a poorly worded message consoling you about your cat who has passed away.
Press three to to hear a poorly worded message consoling you about your little rodent thing who has passed away.
Press four to speak to someone in person who will guide you through this most traumatic of times.
Get real.
And anyway - I'd rather they "wasted" it on something like this - which could help some people - than scientists trying to stop cornflakes going soggy in milk. (Yes, they did!)
good post mate...
