As you may know, I'm Jewish, and my parents have loads of stories about how there parents and their parents' parents had to survive in World War II, as I have relatives who lived in Poland and France, and I've been told most of the stories before. But, because of this, my parents have therefore not told me much about their lives (Drugs, probably).

So, my sister and I were talking about this whole hostage thing on the news, when suddenly, my Mum blurts out "You know, I was a hostage once."

What? I thought she was joking, but my Mum never does that. EVER.

"Oh, I'm sure I've told you before. Did I leave it out?"

YES YOU LEFT IT OUT!

"I must have forgotten to mention it to you....."

FORGOTTEN TO MENTION IT?!?!?!?!?!?!

My Mum doesn't seem to realise that kids of today have been brought up by T.V, and films such as Die Hard, where a hostage situation is actually quite a big thing.

Anyway, it was about 15 years ago, when she worked for Amnesty International, the charity organization. She and a few other people were held hostage by 30 Arabs with petrol bombs, who wanted to release some prisoners somewhere (detail, eh?). As you could imagine, I was already quite shocked by now, but she had also forgotten to tell me, before the beginning. SHE SAVED THEM ALL!

Yep, it was her who phoned someone, who phoned someone else, who phoned the police (and someone to pick up my sister from nursery), and promptly saved the day.

My Mum: The hero.

Anyone got any tales of courage?

My mum was a police officer when she was my age, and once had to arrest a naked man, swinging his member in his hands
