"PCI Sound Card trouble"

I went round to have a look at my brothers PC last night as he is having trouble installing a sound card, he has two different ones but each time he installs the software the machine locks up before it is finished. Tried uninstalling software properly, removing card, rebooting, reinstalling card etc etc. Just can't figure out why this is turning into such a pain in the a**e.

I just touched my ramsinks on the GeForce 2 minutes after booting and badly burnt my finger. Problems there...

Found out problem, my brother hadn't reconnected one of his fans, six minutes are booting up his PC was overheating !
Younger brothers eh ! they should be banned !

Erm.

Does his motherboard have onboard sound?

If so then try disabling the onboard sound and reattempting installation.

Otherwise, either Google it or check the manufacturers website and they may give details of any problems and how to fix them.

Mind you, bet you've already done that! If so, sorry for being patronising(sp). :)

Also meant to ask if Windows 98 has any standard compatible Audio drivers on the CD ?? these would hopefully be more stable - but then again knowing Microsoft ...
