in no order
Gateway - Frederik Pohl - Humans in the future find a set of asteroids orbiting one of the solar systems outer planets. On the asteroids are hundreds of abandoned alien ships with set destinations. People take the risk by getting in these ships and pressing a button, not knowing where the hell they will be going. A large percentage die, but some come back with relics worth millions. quality
the forever war - Joe Haldeman - Your normal alien blasting type scenario, with hundreds of space marines doing battle with an unknown race. a bit like starship troopers, but better.
i am legend - richard matheson - an absolute classic. what 'the omega man' was based on, although what the hell happened in translation I don't know. A guy locks himself in his house by night as the whole worlds population has turned into vampires. by day he loots the local shops for supplies.
a scanner darkly - Phillip K Dick - a masterpiece. a future narcotic agent has to take an unusual case - monitor, and report on HIMSELF. obviously his fellow agents have no idea he has an alternate lifestyle, as a junkie addicted to a particularly dangerous drug that eventually seperates the left and right hemispheres of your brain. as the book progresses and our lead character descends into madness, we see his twisted view of the world transform, and the ultimate irony, he believes the person he monitors with his cameras is seperate to his alter ego, the narcotics agent. Probably the best one I've read yet.
I've read loads of others but can't be assed typing a review on them all right now.
