Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay

Harold and Kumar have visited our screens in the past with their first drug driven film entitled ‘Harold and Kumar get the Munchies’. A light hearted humorous film that was accepted for what it was, simply an ok film. Worth picking up for under three quid, probably not worth the price of the cinema ticket.

So why on earth would they try again you may ask yourself? I’m not entirely sure why either, but I’m kind of glad they did. The film title suggests the story to be covering an array of events in which two friends escape from one of the world’s most feared prisons constantly under the influence of marijuana. In fact there is probably only about 10 minutes in the film when the two are imprisoned. Which in a way is great, two guys stoned in a prison cell for an hour and a half long film….. Need I say more? To be fair the drug side of the movie is evident but not constant, they are not always high and not always talking about getting high either, as I’m sure this would get rather tedious very quickly!

The basic plot of the film is centred on the two going on a trip to Amsterdam, their place of worship if you like. However events unfold on the aeroplane which lands the two straight in jail, and branded as terrorists. The film is quite funny throughout with many references to stupid Americans, and of course the most intellectual of all George Bush. In fact there’s quite an amusing scene towards the end of the scene with the president and the two.

Escaping from one of the worlds top security prisons seems impossible!? Well not for the two, fuelled with luck and fortune their name is cleared and both get the girls of their dreams. Throughout this journey many events occur and a good majority of the film is great comically. Some aspects are just plain weird like the fantasy Kumar has….

Is it worth adding to the DVD collection or one to watch with the kids with popcorn and snacks…? No! However if you’re after an easy to watch film with some friends then this is worth a rent. In some respects I think you have to be in the zone if you know what I mean, like the 3d glasses you get for some films…. Maybe that’s what happened with the Amsterdam film premiere…

Yea, doesn't seem to have the same comical value when you're sober, still ok though. It's like one of those food items that says 'eat hot or cold' and you know damn sure that it's better eaten hot...
