What about the other 10 players on the pitch who failed to create and take more than two scoring chances?
I'm sorry, but as far as I'm concerned, Seaman's 'mistake' pales into insignificance when compared to the fact that our outfield players have made such incredibly hard work of dispatching two minnows in the pond of international football: 2-2 , and a very fortunate 2-1 win against Slovakia.
It's all very well to blame a 'keeper for goals that "shouldn't have gone in", but what about the numerous mistakes made every game by the other players? What about the stray passes from the defence and midfield? What about the goals missed by Owen, Heskey, Vassel and Smith that SHOULD have gone in? Any decent team would have knocked at least six past each of those two teams, rendering the three goals conceded in those games irrelevant.
But no. The blame will be laid squarely at Seaman's door, despite dire performances from every single player on the pitch in both of those games.
And we all act surprised when teams like Turkey and - God help us - USA move above us in the FIFA World Rankings?
It's no wonder there are so many foreign players in the Premiership. It pains me to say it, but even the best England has to offer are simply not good enough on an international stage. We've had team after team of failures ever since 1966. How many times do they have to embarrass us to prove it?
