We have traced this problem down to Internet Explorer having issues with the coding for sitemeter stats, removing this coding seems to solve the problem.
SiteMeter have resolved their problems - statement here.

I don't use Sitemeter, but it looks as if Sitemeter are introducing some changes this weekend(reading their blog).
Looks like they've dropped a bit of a clanger!
NB. It might be worthwhile adding Sitemeter to your thread title so it's obvious it's not a Freeola issue?
