Answer: I haven't got the faintest idea....
It's impossible to say for certain what lies beyond death's mysterious veil (obviously) - the unknown cannot be known - but I've recently found myself making up statements/generalizations on the subject of death - (playing Silent Hill 2 in the dead-of-night has pushed my mind along fey and wistful paths).
For instance:
*Death signals the end of struggle, the rediscovery of peace, and the dawn of a secret becoming.*
Hmm, a bit dreamy that one. - How about:
*The human soul is forever coming and going - forever a rainbow in the dark. Concerning death and the soul, there is but one thing to say: You shall return with a different face.*
Quite cool, but perhaps a little on the romantic/sentimental side. - What about:
*The life of humankind and the evolution of the universe is nothing else but an ultra-complex dream in the infinite supermind of an Almighty God, and at any given moment this God will awaken from its slumber, and its fantastical and lucid dreaming will come to an abrupt end causing every aspect of what we now call existence to be obliterated in the twinkling of an eye.*
....Said the mad scientist who specializes in advanced crackpottery. - Okay, it's time to inject this post with a dose of realism/cynicism:
*In the lottery of life our days are numbered, and when our numbers are "up", the jackpot will be full and brimming with nothingness. In the end, every winner will lose the ultimate prize of life, and be left with not so much as two moments to rub together.*
And finally on to out-and-out grimness:
*Death is the end of circumstance - tombstones immortalize terminated souls.*
I was going to finish with something witty, but I can't think of anything, so I'll just write something bombastic instead:
*Only the dark dynamic of death can summon the demon-star of lasting liberation: only when the nameless song of finality sings with the freedom-voice of no-limit do we become the secret reality of our creation.*
The End.......... or is it?
No, it's not the end. Having watched Eyes Wide Shut last night, I've made up a joke:
*A Satanist is someone who thinks 'turning the other cheek' is an invitation to administer a second slap.*
Huh. This ramble ends here.
> *Death signals the end of struggle, the rediscovery of peace, and the

I like this sentence most.
I'd like to think that there is 'something' beyond death, even though I do find it difficult to believe in anything in particular.
I think the perfect scenario would be that after we die our spirit body floats away and goes to what we consider to be our own ideal heaven.
If this was the case, I'd end up in a pleasure garden of perpetual sunlight, where the air is scented with the smoky sweetness of candyfloss, where I'd eat pure ambrosia and drink the nectar of the gods, and be surrounded by a bevy of enchanting scantily-clad goddesses....
The most likely reality however is probably oblivion, which when you think about it, isn't that bad.
Roy: I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in darkness at Tan Hauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain. Time to die.
Deckard (voice-over): I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life, anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going?
