"Selective senses"

When all of us have a blindfold on at sometime all our other senses are enhanced to make up for our lost one, but when the other one is recovered we don't need to have our other senses enhanced. Well when you are in a smeely room for a long time at first you notice it as you enter the room, but over time somene says to you "what's that smell?" and you say "I can't smell anything" but when you realise this fact you automatically resmell and bingo you notice the awful smell of say cheesy feet.
This is called selective perception and most all of us use it but we don't even notice it until you come to your senses (don't care wether joke was funny or not).

Yeah, what about if you close your eyes while trying to hear something they become more active allowing you to hear more things. But you can't really tell when such and increase happens until afterwards, like the smelling test I mentioned.

On a similar theme, did you know that when you're asleep your ears become hyper-sensetive?

That's why you can easily be woken up by something like a bump or the sound of a car pulling up. It's also why a loud noise will scare the living daylights out of you.
