I have just bought a laptop and cant run any games on it because i cant change the screen to 800x600 16 bit colour. Is there anything i can do to sort this? Do i need a new card if this is possible?

It would be pretty much impossible to replace the graphics 'card' in a laptop since its probably part of the main circuit board, but you might not have the correct drivers installed. I would think all but the very oldest could manage at least 256 colours at 800x600.
