I got this synposis of the film sent to my e-mail account today:

"Imagine a London where there are no police, there is no government,
there are no Doctors or Nurses, no medical supplies: the city is totally
deserted.

Now imagine that this devastation has been caused by the release of a
powerful, deadly virus, transmitted in a drop of blood and devastating
within seconds, the virus locks those infected into a permanent state of
murderous rage. Within 28 days the country is overwhelmed and a handful
of survivors begin their attempts to salvage a future, little realising
that the deadly virus is not the only thing that threatens them".

Obviously the connotations imply that the virus affects people by making them into vicious killers. However this does not distance the films ideology from the concept of a biological attack on our Capital: a potential threat posed extreme fundamentalists. I don't like it. There is enough woe and misery around the globe at present, without the need for a film company to try and stir more controversy and cash in on the hype. (You end up getting posts like these for a start which I recognise hype up the film-ironic).

We all know that this sort of attack (which rather than turning anyone into killers-just kills people horribly) is possible. There cannot be any entertainment value in this surely?

And yes I may be a hypocrite as i do enjoy watching films about people shooting each other etc but this films seems to be particularly sick if you ask me...

Yeah right, try reading what I put - did I say a gun would fit in a pen ? Nope, but the essential component to a ceramic would - a high powered spring. Ceramic weapons would be easier to get onto a plane as they obviously don't trigger metal detectors and, disassembled, look pretty innocuos. And I don't watch the office so haven't got a clue what you're on about.

This topic is spiralling into the absurd and I started it with my stupidity!

How ironic...

Well I'm looking forward to 28 Days Later, and am certain that it wasn't made with real biological attacks preying on the minds of those responsible.

Maybe if they were taking an event that really had occured (rather than could possibly) and put some cheesy love story over it I'd be a little more willing to call it sick.

Like Titanic, Pearl Harbor, or the inevitable twin towers based love story/ tragedy that we'll get soon enough. Maybe he'll die, but her heart will go on.

Then you'd be thankful for an enraged zombie virus to tear them all apart.

That was stupid admittedly, but more expensive larger styles of pen could be used to get items on board a plane - biological agents for instance, or metal components for ceramic pistols. Part of the problem at the moment is that a lot of people are looking for the obvious. It wasn't obvious what would happen on 9/11 - hel, who'd have believed it until that day ?

You can't just say a film shouldn't be released because it offends some people or touches on something certain people might not like. As long as it stays within BBFC ratings then what is the problem.

Most film's are "sick" to someone somewhere- in Middle America there is a company that people can send films to and they edit out sex and violence and swearing for people. Again, thats fine if thats what they want to see - it isn't though if they start insisting thats what everyone should do.
