But then he found out I was hiding it and took it back!
Christmas has always been a rush of games from every developer and no matter how hard they try, console manufacturers always seem to miss getting the bulk of their consoles out by the magical retailers time of the year. Sony were lucky to get as many PS2s in the shops as they did. Okay, so they could have got more out with better planning, but it's not really the disaster story that everyone makes out, and Sony can only benefit from the extra press coverage, while it gives Sega a chance to boost their user-base to a healthier level.
People always want something bigger and better, and the only way to do this is to make something with new technology that costs more to produce. It WILL come down in price, but if you want the newest gadgets now, you have to pay that little bit extra. You could always get a PS1 instead.
PlayStation was definitely £299.
I remember kneeling on the floor in Woolworths when I was 8, looking at the latest VIC-20 games on tape for £7.99.
Gaming has certainly become an expensive hobby though, but all year round - not just at Xmas.
Considering that the PS2 is also a DVD player, it's not too bad a price.
Games cost too much though. But the costs of development are increasing, with the developers having to employ scriptwriters, physicians and mathematicians, to make the games more and more realistic. As well as the standard programmers etc.
I'll just keep looking for bargains when I get me a console.
