Starting with a limited budget, you would allocate funds to technological research, production, advertising and suchlike.
You decide what details to leak to the press, and when, and which companies to give production software to. You also get to vet games and decide if it deserves the "seal of quality" of should not be released. You control which magazines to leak information to - and perhaps you can even spy on other console producers!
Can you skillfully arrange your release dates to get a christmas number one? Can you take on Sony, Sega and Nintendo?
The game could start at any given date, eg the the advent of console gaming (rewrite history!) or the present day. Battle it out through the years as technology progesses into VR, hologrammes, brain implants, etc - the possibilities are wild!
Perhaps there could be in-built scenarios too - can you make the Saturn a success? Do you have what it takes to make people believe Nintendo's projected release dates?
**I'll apologise if something like this has been suggested before, especially if it's recent, but I'm too lazy to read months of back-posts. Sorry.**
