Newcastle has it's fair share of homeless people, like all major cities.
Anyway, there's this bloke which a lot of people I know have seen. He's about 20-25 and looks like a poor guy basically. Everytime I've seen him, he's come up to my mates and I and started apologising, telling us a story about how he sells the Big Issue and how it's his last one, and could we pay him more for it. But then he wants to keep the magazine so he can sell it again. First time we saw him, I gave him a quid or so and walked off. Next time, we just walked off, as he started babbling on about his mum having eye surgery and how he needed a quid for something... Today, we saw him for about the 10th time, and we recognised him straight away. He was totally off his face, on drink and God knows what else. Once again, he came up and started apologising, telling us to relax and stuff too. I just ignored him, and kept an eye out for two of my college mates who were about to show up. We were outside Central Station, where all the trains and metros come by, in town. He was mumbling (literally) so we couldn't understand a word he was saying, and his eyes were closed half the time. Every so often he would speak up, and he kept saying he wasn't a tramp because he had a mobile phone and a £300 coat, and that he had just got out for being drunk and disorderly, which was obviously bollards since he was still drunk. Anyway, after mumbling some more, he said "So can you help me out, lads?" we just asked him what he was on about, and he started mumbling again. This time he started swaying back and forth, like he was falling asleep, and his eyes were closed again. He fell onto me and I pushed him off. I saw the two kids from college we were waiting for, so I just walked off towards them and my mate quickly followed. But of course the guy followed us, and started bugging them instead of us. My mate and I walked off and motioned for them to follow us, so we did and walked around in a big circle so he got confused. They went off to the shops, and we decided to go home, but I needed to expel some urine, so we crossed over the station to the bogs, and as we were going over the bridge he walked past us. Then, two policemen ran past us, talking into their radios. They stopped him at the other platform and were asking him loads of questions. I went to the bug, and next to it an old woman was sat down, and the police were asking her stuff, and writing it down. My guess is, he tried to attack her, or pushed her over or something.
Anyway, this guy is in his early 20s, and is basically a scumbag. For whatever reason, his life has gone down the pan, and I think that's really sad. Maybe he hasn't had the same chances as everyone else, maybe he brought it all on himself, but either way, unless he does something, he's gonna be like that the rest of his life. He needs to do something, and gain some self respect.
All the one's in Nottingham are dead aggressive anyway, best just to walk fast straight past them.

Once I remember:
" Errr I just paid the hostel my money for the week, so can you tap us a fiver for some booze tonight "
Errr no, I've got no bloody money for my own booze
I don't like them coming up and harrasing and making people feel uncomfortable... I still give chance to those that are kinda sitting at side of street looking as if they're dying. I gave my mobile to one guy
I buy big Issue sometimes to read on train on way home
Almost everyone has seen him at least once
"I am grateful for the Big Issue for allowing me the opportunity to get of the streets. However the other day something terrible happened outside my flat. Some shamless person broke into my car and stole my brand bew £500 kenwood sound system".
It wasn't a joke and I stared at the letter increduously. Flat-car-new stereo! Hmm whilst i recognise that the Big Issue has its merits I'm not sure if we are supposed to provide people with luxuries such as car stereos...
The addage is: never give your money to people on the street, give it to the homeless charities instead.
