Mario Sunshine is undoubtedly a classic game. Already it has established itself as a supreme game, and has introduced a whole new playing world to us avid fans of Nintendo magic.

Anyway, despite all this new stuff, such as the FLUDD pack, the new world, and all the new speech and lovely little effects, I still miss some of the older elements Progress is a good thing, but sometimes a bit of the ‘old skool’ is necessary, if only to satisfy retro players like me.

So, here is some stuff I think should be considered in the next Mario GC game (which hopefully isn’t 6 years away!)

Powerups – Where have these gone? Eh? You have to have these! It just wouldn’t be Mario without them (although it obviously is!) Er. Yes. I’m talking Fire Flowers, Red Mushrooms and Power Stars. FLUDDS all well and good, but where are the old classics? Sure, there are green mushrooms, but I want to go on a murderous Power Star fuelled rampage!

? Boxes! Where have these gone? Where? WHERE?

Enemies – Goombas. Koopas. The old classics. Piranha plants IN TUBES that spit fireballs at you. I’m not saying electrified Koopas are bad; just I want some winged ones again!

Or how about a mix of old and new (or even futuristic!)

‘Poison’ Mushrooms- Like SSBM – Don’t make you not small, but go all psychedelic and in the words of 10 yr old townies ‘mental’. Ooooooo! Weird colours! Jump – Eh? Why have I gone into that moon? What? ;)

SMB2 was pretty poor. But, I did like the pulling up of turnips! So how about an automated turnip lobber? Picks up the veg, then loads it into a special gun, which you can then use to massacre evil monsters! MMMWWAAH!

Or how about some reversion to the classic worlds of Super Mario World? Like Mario 64, which had levels in the Mushroom Kingdom, but more so. Have those lovely green round hills in the background, the angled tubes, the giant missile things that charged at you, and Yoshi in his natural environment! Of course, 3-D is a slightly trickier medium, and Sunshine has beautifully huge levels, but some ‘old skool’ stuff couldn’t hurt!

Or, perhaps, Mario actually using the tricks of his supposed trade. A boomerang wrench could deal lethal damage to a Piranha Plants face, or a crank could easily turn a pipe a different way, to get up to some new place. I’m not saying Mario’s current crops of things are bad. Far from it, they are as enjoyable as ever, just I’m saying the perfect Mario game would have all the elements thrown in, together with the above I have just mentioned. A Water-Powered Turnip launcher anyone?

Maybe Nintendo are introducing new enemies etc. so that in 15 years people can say "whatever happend to FLUDD" and "Why isn't Shadow mario in this game"
