Ok strange request I know but here's my scenario.

Have two HDD a 40gb and 60gb. On the 40 I've got Win98SE and on the 60 I've got XP Pro.

Now I want to use the XP drive as my business/work/serious part of my setup and the 98 drive for muckin around, playing games etc.

Now when I boot up my setup automatically boots from the XP drive but I want that to give me the option to switch to the other drive but.....yep you guessed it, I haven't got a clue how.

I know on an NT setup you had the boot.ini file which you could edit but I've looked on the XP drive and that file isn't there, either that or I've missed it in my search and yes I have got all hidden files showing.

So anyone got any idea's or utilities or websites to goto to find my solution.....cheers for the help.

Don't forget, there are files which can't be seen even if you enable "Show hidden files and folders".

Ok, as I said in my earlier post, I've got that setting already set and I've applied that to all folders etc but when I look in the root of C: all I see are five files, one is error.txt and the other four are ff****.ff* files.

There's no boot.ini file as I was expecting to see....which rather threw me and then prompted me to ask the question.

Yes I've refreshed my screen and closed the explorer window and reopened it and I've also done a search for boot.ini and it hasn't found anything.

See above comment.....would be happy if it was there :(

OK, basic GRUB setup as I understand it for non-Linux users.

You get a GRUB image and rawwrite2.exe from ftp.debian.org (it's in contrib somewhere, dosutils). Write the image to a floppy with rawrite from DOS, and there you have your GRUB floppy. Slam it in, reboot.

Boot drive 1 using:

root(hd0,0)
chainloader +1
makeactive
boot

Boot drive 2 using:

root(hd1,0)
chainloader +1
makeactive
boot

You can also set up a pretty menu like I have, but I have no idea how to do it from a GRUB floppy. The writing method's a little iffy too, because I've never actually done it from Windows. Linux isn't essential for this, it just makes it easier. GRUN is supposed to be scalable.

Insomnia knows all about this, whom I suspect would have already posted much of the above by the time I press tab+enter. Hohum.

Ignore Rob. GRUB will confuse and scare you.

boot.ini is just a hidden file under XP.

Go to C: in Explorer, Tools -> Folder Options -> View -> Advanced Settings -> Hidden Files and Folders -> Show hidden files and folders

Then edit it as you would 2k/NT.

Enjoy.

Never heard of it, explanation?

Why not? I'm not an incompetant fool, I'm not a kid, I'm an adult and can accept your input if you'd care to elaborate a bit further.

Nope, but will do if the above two points don't work out.

Well, I'd suggest GRUB as a screwup-proof way of doing it, provided you don't screw up in the first place. Overall though I wouldn't recommend it to you.

Have you tried a search on download.com?
