*Lecture at Martian Prison 9*

Hello class.

Right. Today, we are looking at a huge cult of personality. The Cult of Mario. Never heard of him? Well, way back in the un-enlightened days, long before our glorious Martian rulers came and saved us from the evil that we had wallowed in for so long before, Mario was a very popular figurehead. Of course, he created most of his image himself, using his special helpers, one of particular note, a certain Shigeru Miyamoto - Thats right! Bow to that name!

In the 1980s - Yes the 1-9-8-0s! - Mario was 'born' He quickly established himself as somewhat of a popular character. Propoganda such as 'posters' and 'Televisions' spread his message of pure un-adultarated fun to many mnany people. By the earlies 1990's, roughly the time when our ancestors first discovered that life on Mars had in fact taken the form of the majority of the United States - now known as the Microstate Of McdonaldsSoft Corp - Well. Mario ordered his workers, such as the aforementioned Miyamoto, to construct his image to spread his message even further. It was then that Mario hit super-stardom - He became known accross the world as 'oh, that plumber' and by the year 2000, he was known practicly everywhere in the 'developed' world. Images such as him flying gallantly with capes, defeating giant monsters and managing to resuce damsels in (constant) distress meant that Mario endeared himself to the hearts of millions, in particular, followers of what we believe to of been a main religion of the time - Nintendo. It appears Mario endorsed the religion of Nintendo, therefore pleasing his followers and Nintendos own 'people'. This is based on information gathered from the 'Mario Annual 1994' which we believe was created by Mario for exactly that - historical notes. It is interesting to see that he again portrays himself as fighting giant turtles and ghosts - and people appeared to fo believed this totaly -they flocked to buy his new products - carefully created propoganda pieces that took years to perfect, but had almost instant successes.

An odd enigma in the cult is Marios image. He is often portrayed as a small, tubby mustachioed man, which, consdiering the obvious power he had, is rather peculiar. Why did he not construct a heroic image of himself? We shall never know, but we did find a possible explanation from an ancient clipping of 'NGC'

*Activates Holo-Slide projector*

See here, the clipping - 'So, Mr. Miyamo****here does Marios image come from?

Then -

'Well, he is made to look unassum**** and very distinctive - Perhaps *****like the plumber, Italian ('Italian' appears to be an ancinet race) looking*****'

As you can see, Miyamoto obviously constructed this image, as chief PR Minister, perhaps? Despite this, it did not deter Mario from success.

The two most notable successes that we know about were two titles named 'Mario 64' and 'Mario Sunshine' While it is unclear what the second subject of each title is, it is clear that these two titles were both hugely successful, and therefore, we must assume very well crafted. But why did Mario create this huge image of himslef, that was obviously not true - I mean who ever heard of a plumber not doing any work! The Overseers of Martia Secondary 6 would never allow it! *Laughs*

Perhaps Mario had hidden objectives in the world of politics? Perhaps he was just a power hungry man? And why did all these people believe so hugely? I mean, you have to be pretty guillable to believe all that monster bashing is true, and that your rulers are really as good as they say they are! *more laughs*

BRRRRRRR! Class dismissed!

Now - Everyobdy outside for our usual Martian Victory dances, to celebrate our climb from the Ashes of before, with powers like Mario, to now, where we are free on Martian Secondary 6!
