It got me thinking. Only a few other games had done this, and some were not expected. For instance, I had heard of Goldeneye, but never played. Picked up the N64 controller at a mates house. And i played for every possible minute I could. It was absoloutely superb. Other games, such as AvP2, that I expected, were perhaps less amazing, but still, it was the fact that I had the game, and could play something I had wanted for a long long time. This made the game all the more special. Although anticipation is an element of that feeling, I love the way games take you by surprise - for instance, I recently 'got' Ogre Battle. I'm hooked on it. Looks very poor, but plays absoloutely brilliantly. Again, I got Resi. Looks excellent (scratch that, AMAZING!) and it also plays brilliantly too! Both were spur of the moment purchases, and both have reaped rewards for me - namely enjoyment.
So, what I am trying to say, in a roundabout way, is that while games that you expect, such as Mario or Zelda, to be brilliant, and you have pre-ordered them, so they are on the way, and playing on them is perhaps a brilliant experiance, I am also saying that buy stuff 'then'. I bought Resi simply because I saw it and I had the money. A purchase like that does bring its rewards, not just for games, but for most things. So, if you are bored, waiting for your expected 'amazement' games, go out, find a bit of cash, and buy a game (Within reason!). You never know - you might find a brilliant game that really surprises you. Even if everybody else says its rubbish.
