I tried my PS1 scart cable in my PS2 and I didnt get a picture at all. Its got two cables that come out of the ascart lead that go to the high-fi or speakers. Its quite old scart lead over 2 years old. Is sony bringing out a PS2 scart cable ?

Are you sure you have a 'proper' PS1 SCART lead? I have a standard PS1-to-SCART lead I bought from Game over a year ago, and it works fine with my PS2.
