Tis is for XP, now. The problem is that I can't copying music, or delete songs from the media library without the program shutting down. What is going on with the software and how can I fix it? THere are no known patches, and I've already installed Service Pack 1.
Nero isn't free, but Winamp 2 is and there's a CD burning plugin for it. In fact, there are probably loads.
Are the programs you mentioned freeware?
Also, are there any programs which, like Media Player, copies CDs and plays music files? Much appreciated.

On the software front: Ahead Nero is the best burning ROM you can get (apart from gtoaster). For playing music, Winamp 2, videos I always stick with WMP though. You can use WA3 but it's crap.

The software is just rubbish. Throw it away. Metaphorically. If you want to rip CDs get something like Easy CD-DA Extractor. If you want to play songs get Winamp. You might try updating all your drivers and the firmware for your CD drive, or wade through a protracted and probably futile troubleshooting process. But why bother?
