Computer SPACE, the first computer arcade game is launched unsuccessfully by Nutting Associates and designed by Nolan Bushnell

1972
The first home TV game system, the Magnavox Odyssey released in the USA.

1973
Atari create the first Pong arcade games.

1974----

1975
Atari’s Home-Pong is demonstrated at toy industry exhibition by Nolan Bushnell.

1976
The Fairchild Channel F is launched as the first home console with interchangeable game cartridges.
Warner Communications buys Atari.

1977
Gunfight, an arcade game from Midway Games, becomes the first game to use a microprocessor instead of hard wiring.

1978
Japanese pachinko company, Taito, release the arcade game Space Invaders the first game to feature animated characters and display "High Scores". In the USA it is distributed by Midway Games.

1979
Atari releases what was to be their best-selling game, Asteroids, as an arcade game.

1980
Atari releases Space Invaders for the VCS 2600.

1981
First outing for Mario in Donkey Kong. He is originally conceived as a carpenter rather than a plumber.

1982
Atari announces poor sales of VCS, and Warner stock tumbles 32% in one day.

1983
Nintendo launch the Family Computer (Famicom) in Japan - 500.000 units are sold in the first 2 months but technical problem cause a huge recall.

1984
Nintendo begins development of Nintendo Entertainment System

1985
Nintendo releases the Nintendo Entertainments System (

1986
SEGA releases SEGA Master and Commodore releases the Amiga.

1987
VGA and SVGA graphics cards developed.

1988
Tetris is released- woohoo

1989
SEGA releases Genesis 16-bit console in USA

1990
Sega Megadrive launched (UK).

1991
Nintendo releases Super NES and SEGA introduces Sonic the Hedgehog, who competes in popularity with Nintendo's Mario character.

1992
Wolfenstein 3D is released by id Software. (The very first FPS)

1993
Doom, the ground-breaking first person shooter is released by id Software and Sega now owns half of the entire games market.

1994
SEGA Saturn launched and Sony PlayStation released

1995
Microsoft releases its new operating system Windows 95.

1996
Nintendo launches the Nintendo 64. Also lara croft is created along with Tomb Raider.

1997
Quake II (id Software/Activison) is released

1998
Sega Dreamcast launched in USA aswell as Half Life

1999
Sega Dreamcast launched in the UK.

2000
Launch of Sony’s PlayStation 2.

2001
Microsoft to launch its first attempt at a gaming console, the Xbox.

2002
Xbox released in the UK and Nintendo release the Gamecube.
Also SEGA stop production of the Dreamcast and move to concentrate on game content.

.Between now and 2050 (if wer'e still here, I doubt it) I assume fully virtual reality 3d gaming where you can react with other people and touch each other will be a reality. We already have the Internet which is the greates invention since sliced toast. Just think what wonders will be available in 50 years.

I used your idea DM... o sorry. I know I was having a go at drunk cow for doing it but yours was prolly a long time ago so i didn't see it. apoligies again....... stay in there i'm sure you'll bounce back.
