Does anyone remember the days before games had endings? Most of the games on the Atari had no ending, you would just keep going, with the aim to simply get the most score ever.
These days almost all games can reach an end, and the gamer is not as interesting in getting the biggest score ever, as there is an ending to try to see instead.

So people, what's you favourite game ending?

I like the multiple endings of Chrono Trigger, depending upon where and when you defeated Lavos. Top stuff!

ok, Super smash bros for the N64 has no ending, you just have to beat the hand, it's more of a multiplayer game though. I keeps track of the highest scores for each player and the quickest times, it's all very good, i'm still trying to beat my times now.
Lots of games have endings but leave you little missions outside of the main game which get you extra points. e.g. Zelda OoT: there was no need for the ice arrows but I got them because the item page didn't look right without them, the fire arrows weren't needed but they helped on the last 6 mini levels.

Good topic! Well, there's Final Fantasy 8 for a start. You spend all those weeks trying to get to the end, goaded on by spectacular FMV sequences throughout the game, so when you get there it IS a bit of an anticlimax, but it does go on rather a long time which kinda makes up for it. Resident Evil 2 had some well crafted endings too, again all FMV but then that's what I like. Then you have Gran Turismo. Weeks of tweaking cars, sliding around bends, getting blisters on your thumbs along with your licences, and for what? Er, can't remember. It doesn't really have an ending as such, it just goes on and on and on and on which is the major fault (or benefit in some views), of the game.

Of all my games though, it has to be Mickey Mouse Castle of Illusion on the Megadrive. I spent months trying to beat that game, and the credits were such a relief. So much so that I sold the game the next day, it was taking over my life. Never have I been so glad to finish a game.
