To me this was a bad sign, as I already thought and knew that the pc market was struggling because of the mass of games on the market. I in fact love tycoon games but was a little worried they were now only causing the market a little bit of harm. I counted in one store 33 games with the name tycoon on and an astonishing 52 cheapy games all of them were pretty cheesy but in fact sounded quite fun. One in particular government tycoon, the game involved you running for office and then dealing with the country’s problems. There were another 32 games like this from firemen to fast food. Now there are a only a few company’s that make theses games so market share must be pretty tight and very competitive. These companies’s who make them are just making as many of these games as possible most of which are bits and pieces put together. To try and make us buy them and doing so is flooding the market with cheap and tacky games. It would be alright if they just released a few every so often which were really good and had a lot of effort put in to them as it would help the market by adding more decent games but without adding 50 games which were not so good. No wonder the pc market is struggling a bit because it’s these smaller companies who are releasing second tier games by the minute and diluting the market.
Why are these games which are flooding the market gone under by now? Well people are buying them, I mean who wouldn’t at the price of £4.99? I do myself I have a great selection of games like this all of which have given me about an hour of amusement in total. Why do I still buy them if I don’t get any enjoyment out of them, well I cant resist them, I walk in to Eb and take a good look around. I have a look at some amazing pc games but some are quite expensive. So I go and look at these games that look good thanks to a decent cover and enticing information on the back about the game. Another thing about these games is you can buy like 5 for the value of just one really good game, don’t be fooled you will get more enjoyment out of the single game than the cheaper games. So the next time you see these games and say that looks good I might buy it think about it, or buy it then come back with the receipt and change it for a decent game.
Don’t get me wrong this topic has only put these games down, there are some good sides. They are cheap and sometimes a little enjoyable. If you want to go and buy cheap games as you think that the decent games are to expensive go and look at these cheaper games then buy one take it home load it up and then you will realise what I am on about. If you really have a bad cash flow my advice would be go for the sold out software which is reasonable and has some very good games available for it. There are a few decent cheap tycoon games out there but they are few and far between. If you no of any please don’t hesitate to let on. I do understand that this post of mine is very much the way I see things you may have a completely different view.
