Can anyone offer advice here:

I recently bought a gforce 2 MX400 64MB graphics card, to play games on my birds pc.

The specs are now:

Celeron 1.1Ghz

128 RAM (bought extra 256, but doesn't work, currently trying to find out why????)

20 HD

64MB gforce2 MX400 card, PCI

Also got broadband

My prob is, after getting afew demos off the net, to test performance, all the games suffer from freezing for various amounts of time. Not crashing, because they do eventually work.

Battlefield1942 looks a top game, and it will work, but it's just so slow, even stopping for 10-20 seconds.

I'm not sure what the reccomended spec is but, i'm sure it's around 750Htz, 128RAM and 32 Card, so why am i getting so much slow down, stoppin even?

Is it because it's a celeron and not pentium?

Please help anyone

Cheers

Mark

You may find, just as a thought, about 512mb of RAM to cut down on some of the load times. IT does have some show stopping bugs thats for sure. Best drivers I've found so far are the Nvidea Det 30 drivers, If you have the nvidea 60Hz fix that could also be causing you some problems.

Old spec was:

AMD 1800+XP
256Mb ram
Gf4 MX440
Det 30 Drivers + Nvidea Fix

The game was choppy but ran perfect on my GF machine of the same spec but with 768Mb RAM and AMD 1600+XP

I currently have it running smooth on the above spec but with More RAM and no nvidea fix. Patches applied to both.

The online apsect for some reason though does disconnect you from the server for no reason giving you between 20 minutes of play or 3 maps worth of play depending on how it feels.

Also just check you aren't running any programs in the background such as virus checkers, as these can sometimes take up too much CPU time causing slow down and freezing during some games.

No, Battlefield 1942 has some major, show-stopping bugs in it.
Download the patch for it and try the latest Nvidia drivers from

http://www.nvidia.com

But Battlefield 1942 has major issues, check out their forums. Chances are it's not your comp
