Yes, Transformers ! GI Joe (Action Force), He Man, Smurfs, and a whole lot more.
Anyone reading this that grew up in this time probably has fond memories of all the above, especially Transformers - arguably the greatest ever animated series on the planet.
Why though ? Think about it, there are loads and loads of 16-20+ year olds out there who buy the DVDs of Transformers, the reissued toys, the new Dreamwave comic. In fact the Dreamwave comic prooved so popular that, six months after it first came out, issue #1 commands a minimum of £20 online. Reissued toy are in the collectables shops like Another World and Forbidden Planet, at £29.99 each for such greats as Jazz and Prowl they're are flying off the shelves. A new cartoon, Transformers Armada also starts over here in December.
In November the He Man comic starts again, and it's already this year's most pre ordered comic, there are plans to release the ill fated film on DVD at last, and He Man 2002 starts on Fox Kids later this year. Reissued toys are also out there but selling fast.
The Smurfs still continue to appeal to many older people as well, and the figures still come out every year.
GI Joe is seeing a resurgence too, once again the toys are back out to buy, the comic is doing amazingly well, and older items are going for massive prices.
What's so magic about these series that grown up people will openly admit they watch and buy the stuff. We're watching kids tv shows really, aren't we ? Only kind of, I beleive. All the above were my, and many others, favourite shows. Watched them every week until I grew out of them, but I still liked them. Now I'm older I can go back and buy all the stuff I wanted then and much more. The stories in such episodes as "Sink The Montana" (GI Joe) and "Rebirth Of Optimus Prime" (Transformers) have a certain something about them, they're timeless. The plots are nothing to shout about in most cases. But.....
Maybe it's nostalgia, or something I can't quite define, but every time the Transformers DVD starts up, or the GI Joe video begins, I can't help smile and feel kinda happy. With today's shows dominated by sprawling plot lines and endless twists, it's nice to see something simple now and again, and remember the good old days.....
Maybe thats why these are all so popular, they're a link to the past for a lot of us.

Needless to say it didn't 'transform' after that. Except into a pile of plastic bits.
But yeah, Transformers was ace, especially that big airplane that didn't know if it was good or bad, he was a bit mental.
Thundercats was better, I could relate to that more. More believeable, you see.
It was always better than Transformers and it had guns, great good guy characters, funny looking baddies, more guns and there were some classic episodes.
Like you, I remember "Sink The Montana" and I still have it on video and I still it remember it fondly.
I also liked the episode "Once Upon a Joe", or it might have been "Once Upon a Cobra", it had Cobra stealing a machine called "The Maguphan Device" and the Joes accidentaly blowing up an orphanage and then having to go back and repair it. Whilst there, Ship Wreck tells a fairy story to a load of the orphans and gets beaten up by Zartan.
Then the Maguphan Device is accidentally used and somehow makes the characters from the story appear and menace Cobra.
The GI Joe movie is also a firm favourite along with the Tranformers one.
The good thing about having the internet and file sharing software is being able to download some of these old cartoons.
