Capcom jumped ship with the Resi deal because it wasn't making enough money on the PS2 brand with some stiff competition, most notably from itself with Onimusha and DMC. So, in order to make a few easy bucks on a system which isn't difficult to develop for they pulled all the old control systems and old AI routines out of Resi from the PS, and gave it a nice shiny new coat.
Damn you Ninties are so stupid, when Bonus has insider information (wink, wink, nod nod) and tries to tell the world that Resi on the Gamecube is an attempt by Capcom to make a quick buck out of a so far untapped Nintendo user base, LISTEN!!!!
Ok, I'll go away and gloat now, I hope Microsoft snap up Capcom and Resi exclusivity soon, just to shut up some fanboys who are more loyal to Nintendo than their own mothers!!!
;)
I don't know where Bonus has this idea Nintendo fans thought Capcom were doing this out of the goodness of their hearts..... maybe been brainwashed or something because no Nintendo mag has ever claimed this. Quite the opposite, NOM made it clear that Nintendo wanted Capcom to make a fw more adult games for the GC, as it happens most Nintendo owners aren't really bothered about that.

I do think it's worth £40, even if it is a re-make, just because the game has been changed so much for the better.
And anyway, quite a few people that own a GC probably won't have owned a PS1 as well, simply because you're either a plain Ninty, a plain Sony or plain rich - and not many people are the latter. ;-)
The contract does not have to be fulfilled in terms of content, especially if Capcom doesn't actually exist and becomes Microsoft East, or some drivel like that.
What makes you so sure that Capcom aren't out to make a quick buck out of the untapped Xbox user base eh ? Or is it different because the Xbox is "special" ?
At the end of the day;
1)Only SR have this Capcom being bought by MS thing, Japanese games sites and the US ones have very little about it other than Capcom's financial mess.
2)Capcom have a signed deal to provide Resident Evil Zero, and Resident Evil 2 + Nemesis, they have to provide them or Nintendo's lawyers will hit them even harder.
3) I'd be more worried about MS screwing Xbox owners than Capcom doing likewise to GC owners, and even if MS did get Capcom you've still only got the Resident Evil license that's worth even bothering with.
As a Gamecube and PS2 owner I find it quite comedic the way MS is going around like it owns the industry. Seen it all before with Sega and look what happened to them.

Stupidity rules the gaming community, and the sooner gamers realise that most games (a remake of a few year old resi game included) isn't worth £40, then the better life will be for us all.
Every games company does it for the money, and just to milk it out of us, the poor and stupid typical gaming fan.
