Then, a liitle while ago (about 3-4 months I think) I figured it may be wise to update, or at least bug fix my site with a little more regularity than every two years when my renewal requests arrive...
At the same time I thought I would check my settings, make sure I was getting everything I could out of my PHP scripts, ensuring that my control panel, mail settings had been setup properly (the right password for the right account, etc.)
After playing around with my PHP settings, and logging into the control panel to check my account settings, I chanced upon something about needing to be connected to the net via the Freeola dial-up before being able to download mail to a machine?
I was a little surprised, since, up until this time I'd been using Outlook, which, when asked to check mail collecting settings (in the tools->email accounts->edit settings section) had always reported reported no problems, claiming sending and recieving mail was'nt a problem...
As a quick check I decided to fire off a quick test email from my Freserve account to my Freeola account...
Which, afer waiting a bit, and doing a quick 'send and recieve' returned nothing...
So, I tried the same with my other freeola email accounts (I have two web pages, each with one email, webmaster@ and each attached to a standard freeola acount, with its own respective email addy)...
Ands, as before, when I tried to collect my mail from all four(using my Freeserve connection) returned no sent mails, though reported no problems.
Feeling like a bit of an idoit for having my account for so long without realising that I needed to connect via the freeola dial-up, I disconnected from my Freeserve connection, and reconnected using one of my Freeola accounts, figuring, worst case that I would only be able to collect my mail from one account.
However, I still did'nt recieve any mail from any of my freeola accounts...
So while still connected to my Freeola account, I fired off another couple of test mails (my test mails constsed of hammering out a few random characters for the message and a few random characters for the title and posting through a number of non-Freeola accounts). None of which seemed to reach the freeola account
I then tried e-mail forwarding, shoved off a few more mails, and waited for my mail check to fail to grab anything Freeola related from either my Freeserve of BTInternet accounts... which it consitantly did...
At that point I got bored, gave up, and looked for something to eat, deciding to leave it for the day...
A couple of days later I tried the same things, and met with the same amount of success...
Then, with the e-mail forwarding stuck in place (I figured it couldnt do any harm) about a week later, a couple of my test mails came limping through my mail box and into mt outlook inmail tray... But it was only a random few, each from differnet accounts, some sent from the first day of checking, others from the second, not all of them arrived, and none of them were the standard 'Outlook test mails' (the one they send everytime they check you mail account settings....
Since then, I have recieved mail irregularly via my Freeola acounts (through mail forwarding). Though, to be fair, it was never going to be a hotbed of mailings, its certinaly not my prime account, and though my sites do provide the webmaster accounts, they don't go out of their way to request anyone use them...
I was just wondering, since, having setting up mail forwarding, I am actually recieving mails, something which only started soon after the forwarding was setup, irregualrly or not I am getting mail, this, after having had a year prior, where I was'nt recieving anything at all...
I was wondering if anyone had any idea of how I could try and grab the lost test mails? Or check to see if there are any mails Ive missed that were sent to me over the year when I was foolishly attempting to collect my mail directly via the Freeserve account? If I've missed something remarkably obvious from my mail account setup? Or any ideas at all? ...
Like I say, its been a few months since, and its certinaly not a make or break problem, though I have been curious about it for a while now, and thought I would see if anyone here had any ideas what I had been doing wrong?
