Some of you may know of Dave Grohl, others may not. This man is undoubtebly the gretest person in Rock & Roll history. Dave Grohl is best known as the Drummer from Nirvana but is now making a name for himself as a lead singer and guitarist from the excellent rock band Foo Fighters and has also been in many other bands and was touring by the age of 17.

Dave Grohl, born January, 14, 1969, began playing drums in punk bands in the 1980s, starting with Freak Baby, which became Mission Impossible and later changed again to Fast. After Fast broke up, Dave joined the band Dain Bramage, and soon after he auditioned for Scream with which he then became the drummer. Grohl was then noticed by Kirt Cobain (lead singer from Nirvana) and blew them away. They then asked him to play for them in 1990 and he accepted. By that time Nirvana had already released one album.

On September 24th 1991, Nirvana released their first album with Grohl in the band which. The album was named Nevermind and went straight to the top of the charts. Nevermind acted as the doorway to new grunge and alternative music and encouraged bands like Pearl Jam and Sound Garden.

Their next album released was on 21st september 1993 which was called Utero. This was considered Nirvanas greatest master piece. 7 months later, Kurt Cobain commited scuicide which brought Nirvana to an end.

Because of the death of one of Daves best friends, he almost quit music completely but with the help of his friends, Dave continued and made the first Foo Fighters album. He played all the instruments by his self in the studio as he had no band. Grohl then found some people to play in the band with him. These were Pat Smear who was Nirvana's second guitarist, Nate Mendal (bass) and William Goldsmith (drums).

The next Foo Fighters album was called The Colour and shape which was release on June 20th 1997. The previous drummer who had joined at the beginning of the making of this album left at the end and so Taylor Hawkins took over the drums but did not play on that album.

In the fall of 97, Pat Smear announced he was leaving Foo Fighters and so Grohl brought in Franz Stahl one of Dave's former members from Scream.

After a massive tour, the FF's decided to rest and begin work on their new album. Before they began, Franz Stahl left and FF became a trio. They then went to Grohl's house and recorded their new album There is Nothing Left To Lose which was released on November 2dn 1999 which had massive singles on like Learn to Fly which featured Jack Black and Kyle from Tenaciuos D in the music video. Another Huge single was Breakout which was used as a music video for Me Myself And Irene starring Jim Carey.

The FF's then did some light touring at the end of 1999 and early 2000 with Chris Shifflet as their new guitarist. In February 2001, Foo Fighters won 2 Grammy Awards: Best Rock Album for There Is Nothing Left To Lose and Best Short Form Music Video for Learn To Fly.

Foo Fighters are releasing a new album on 21st October which is gonna be absolutely brilliant.

He is rather entertaining live. I saw him at the Reading Festival, where they played a blinder and probably got the most crowd involvement of anyone there. Of course, licking the camera and wiping his bogeys down its lens probably helped.

I met Dave Grohl, well me and my sister did, after a Tenacious D gig. We were in the VIP-area stairwell, and he was as nice as his constant smile suggests.
