If you go to one of Sony's main UK distributors, Centresoft http://www.centresoft.co.uk/html/product_information.htm
you'll note that the PS2 is showing "In Stock" (as of 4pm Monday). Does this mean that some of the remaining pre-orders are sat at the warehouse awaiting distribution to the shops? Of course their info could be inaccurate but it may show another batch of PS2's are coming soon!

This is probably just an allowance of stock to cover faulty returns
