If there's only one thing in Football that can turn the Fans against the Referee in a matter of seconds then it's a bad descision that becomes a blatant and huge mistake from the Man in Black (or Gold, depending on what colours the teams are in).

Referees are tending to get a lot more things wrong now, a hell-of-a-lot more than they used to, even more-so during the early parts of this season than they did during the entire time of the last campaign!
Most of the time, it's when a referee wrongly waves the Red Card infront of the players' face rather than the Yellow one he should've used instead. That can not only drive the victim's team-mates insane, but the thousands of fans all sat around-him will rise-to-their-feet and literally turn 'insane'!
But it's not just bad or irrelevant Bookings that can put a Ref into some Hot Water either. There is, of course, the Off-side Rule.

Perhaps this is the worst of the lot - especially with the new rule regarding how there must be 'air' between the 2 players in-order for the descision to be made, not really helping-out the Refs of today's World here even one-bit!
So often, so-many times we see a player wrongly flagged Off-side when he was clearly 'on'.

Those of us who have had Off-side descisions go against out teams have tried to imagine life without the Off-side Rule. Some say it would be better, while others say worse.
Here are some of the good and bad points we could one-day face:

-Well, for a start, there'd be less controversial descisions from the Referees regarding this matter, as no player would have the fear of being caught off-side or having to time his (or even HER) runs to perfection in order to beat it.
-But if players were able to go and hang-around on the pitc wherever they like, then it would just be a shambles every Saturday afternoon! Imagine the number of 'Goal Hangers' we would see, just like the ones you get at School.
-And with nothing to stop them except for the odd defender-or-two, there would surely be a greater chance for Attackers to get further-forward and score more goals. But would there be TOO-many? I think so. And that we'd soon end-up with Sunday League U-I3's scores like 23-15 at the end of the full-90 minutes. Simply ludicrous! All existing records would be shattered rediculously.
-The Referees themselves would certainly benefit from this as they'd have less work to do and pressure to feel. So their job would be a little easier, and they may even be able to get other descisions more accurate and RIGHT. So it's a good thing in that sense.
-But another bad thing regarding the players themselves has come to my mind...
Managers and Club Coaches work very hard week-in week-out in-order to select players from their squad to be part-of a team that works so-well together tactically that it can rip defences apart at the click of the fingers and dominate the domestic leagues - just like how Man United have done in the past. All the hard-work the put-in to make the team so-great would be wasted as there would be one-less of a major obstacle to beat in the Off-side Rule being scrapped. So teams would be able to play more un-co-ordinated and wildly in-order to score goal-after-goal-after-goal.

I may only have touched on a select number of points there, but there are enough important factors there to have you re-consider any previous opinions you may have had regarding whether otr not Footie would be better without Off-sides, and you should now be against the idea of 'destroying' the Off-side Rule, and leaving it as it is.
Let's face-it; it may cause us havoc and problems all the time, but the Off-side Rule with all it's different laws, rules and regulations helps to keep Football the world's most exciting, entertaining, and overall no.1 sport that wipes-away the competition.

If anything needs to be done to help Refs to get things right then the FA and FIFA need to bring-in some more advanced technology - despite what Sepp Blatter has said before.

Are you still voting-for the removal of the Off-side Rule now?? :)

Offside keeps the game more concentrated in the centre if you know what I mean...

Without it, people would be able to run all over the pitch and the game would just involve thumping the ball around the pitch...

Same as now really...

Whether or not we keep the offside rule isn't worth debating in my opinion, I see it as essential as the rule which says "hacking a player in the knees without any effort to take the ball will result in a dismissal from the game" or whatever.

It's essential to the skill of the game.
