I remember the first mobile phone I ever had. It was a Vodafone of some sorts with no games, no logos or down loadable ringtones just a small little phone with a few features that I was happy with until about a year later. Mobile phones started to become a necessity to life everyone had to have one and if you don't well your sad aren't you. (just kidding ;D ) Even my wee brother has one and he got his first when he was 9! I mean how many phonecalls does a 9 year old need to make.
First came the logo's and ringtones these were the inn thing that everyone had to have. These allowed you to personalise your phone and was a great little thing you could show off to your friends. Next came Facias these also allowed you to personalise your phones and was cheap enough for everyone to buy.
Then we come to the stage of phones becoming expensive on pay and go. This mad a huge uprise in the market and a lot of people stayed with the nokia 3310/3330. These phones had all the previously mentioned features and the 3330 had the added feature of internet access HUZZAH!! I know lot's of people who have phones with internet access and they never even use it because of the prices!
Now comes the interesting part. Now we have come to the day and age of colour screens, java applications, digital cameras, polyphonic ringtones and GPRS. These are all superb features that bring phones into the 20th centur but are they really needed? I love all these features but I can't help coming to the conclusion that in every case it's nice to have those features but I would never use half of them.
I am getting the Motorla V50 in a wee while and that does all the things I need (and it is a flip phone YAY! :D ) but I can't help but wondering will we ever go to far? Samsung are already developing a mobile phone wrist watch with only one or two buttons making everything voice controlled. Imagine trying to make a phone call on that! If you hadn't saved the number you'd have to say it aloud to everyone around you! And you'd constantly need ear phones just to keep your convo's private! Yes we are going into the future but isn't it all a bit excessive?
> I don't have a phone. Hooray for me!
Hooray for you indeed...
