I shall form a band at University and never work for a living and play all around the world and meet Bono and Yorkie boy and of course the Manics.
Careers Advice Interview I shall tell them that.
Thanks people
Done small musical things, done big musical things. Each are great for the same basic reasons - music, love and energy. Sounds corny I know but its true.
Then there's the other great things that come with being in a band like.. never paying to go and see big bands, the women, the booze/drugs, the nights you'll never forget.. there are worse occupations to have let me tell you.
But a word of warning SHEEPY - dont get caught up in the details. Concentrate on the music and believe that it is the most important element of being a band and you will be happy, whatever level you take it to. Get lost in the details, the plans, the image, the strategies and you will lose the very thing that made you great musicians.
It means that I get to play and sing at least once a week (Sundays believe it or not !) in front of roughly 100 people and it is great. Forgetting all the religious stuff for the mo - cos that is obviously important to me as well - but the feeling that you get when you are up there performing and you know that it has gone right just can't be beat (well maybe sex just shades it !).
The first time I played I was so nervous that after I could get myself off the pan I made sure that I was positioned behind an enormous pillar so nobody could see me in case I ballsed up.
Whatever you do - it's worth the effort - not just for the enjoyment it gives you but also for the enjoyment it gives others.
Goaty - How can we get to hear some of your stuff ????
I shall create a band... me and mate who is like me have been kicking idea around for a while. I've written some pee poor lyrics and tunes and I'm dreadful at guitar but I'm getting better every day.
I just can't see me working in some crappy office my whole life.. I've got this urge to go out and perform and stuff.
Yes I shall triumph
Also best of luck do your band and I'll buy CDs and turn up at gigs I can and stuff
I am jealous
Thank You
My job is a doss and I stare at boobs all day (and they dont mind), my boss is cool and knows I'm only treading water there. She allows me time off to rehearse, gig etc.
There are certainly worse places to be.
And then there's the music.
We've been in the studio on and off for 5 months now. Ok, so I did all my drum stuff in one block but I still go down to give my 1/4 input on stuff.
And we're at the stage now where we gig and get pretty decent crowds down including some celebs.
Labels are sniffing about, they are interested and send A&R to each gig, take us out for dinner etc and dance around the subject of being signed.
We've supported Haven, Easyworld and The 45's and probably going out to support Mackie's band at the end of the year.
Monday's is rehearsals and at least 1 other night of the week is strategy meetings with all the band and our producer/engineer.
It's at the level now where although you don't hear us on the radio that often, we've got a decent name for ourselves and don't have to chase gigs now - they phone us because we're a good draw.
And until we get signed (4 labels in talks at the moment), I'm more than happy to stroll along in my job and spend evenings/weekends living it up at gigs.
Can't recommend it enough to you. Gigs are fantastic fun, we have it 100% when we're up there. You get free beers, the ladies absolutely think you're a god (I scored at the one Snuggly + monkey_man came to) and, at the end of the day it's me and my gang playing bloody good tunes to people that enjoy what we do.
And it's gone beyond just our mates turning up, there are regular faces that we don't know, new people all the time and some other stuff I can't talk about.
If you're contemplating getting a band together, do it. It's the best feeling in the world when you know you play good songs and people are into it.
I appreciate that our music isn't to everyone's taste, but we're damned good at what we do and it's proper songs. Not just 4 blokes in a garage doing a gig to 20 mates at a pub.
Love it, wouldn't change places for the world mate.
Get out there, get some other like minded people together and have it.
Nothing to stop you and nothing to stop you becoming as big as Radiohead/U2 and Coldplay.
Hell, if a drippy, no-balls outfit like Coldplay can make it then anyone can.
Do it tomorrow. Put an advert in a local paper/music shop/Uni notice board.
You have to start somewhere - my first gig at College I couldn't even play very well. Still felt like King of The Jungle though.
Being in a band = Never growing up and getting the chance to rule at each gig you do.
So, I shall go down honourably.
Seriously though, I think Goatboy has got something good going. He's got the job on the side bringing in the income and the band is more lesuire at the moment I'm guessing? That's good. Wish i could sit arund in an office, stare at women, do them and rock it out during the night.
Having it full time though would be something special.
I actually want to just quit everything and do band stuff everyday, then things would be much better. Not if stuff goes wrong though...
I'm afriad I need to kill you
Just music 24/7.
That would be a great life. Along with alot of sex, that would be great too.
*Plans trip to Canada*
