If the PS2 ever starts to loose it’s popularity - is it possible that at some point, people wont care about who makes the console. People will just buy the one with the right games. So, for example at the moment, a lot of people won’t buy an XBox because it’s Microsoft. But if Microsoft were to own everything, would people just accept it and buy it for the games? I think they would. Look at the car industry. Not so many years ago, most people wanted a car made in the UK by a UK company. This loyalty is almost gone now. The new (BMW) Mini is really popular, yet it’s a BMW. The new Fiesta is not made in the UK, but it makes no difference to most people. Could this also happen to consoles? Or will the loyal fans (particularly of Nintendo - i mean that in a good way) protest, and steer clear of anything they don’t like - even if it is the clearly better machine.

Right now a lot of people don't want XBox. Some just because of games issue's, etc, others because its Microsoft. But eventually, we will come to accept Microsofts presence in the console market. Effectively, we will "get used to it". And if Microsoft does get games like MGS3 as exclusive, and buys up others like Rare, then Microsoft will be everywhere. But by then, we wont think anything of it. Unless, loyal fans stop buying games and/or hardware if it's Microsft owned. This will be a tough call, since you may have to force your self not to buy your favourite games - if it's been taken in under the Gates umbrella. I can’t see most people doing that, they will still get the games they want regardless of who owns, publishes, makes the game, etc.

True they would overprice everything, but they wouldn't charge so much that no-one could afford them because then they would go out of business.

Even if they charged enough that only rich people could afford them, they'd still be losing profit (Not like Bill Gates has anything to worry about anyway!).

Unless you can afford a TVR, you're a bit scuppered if you want a British car.

Brand loyalty is a marketing tool used to convinve blind fools to invest in a certain product. That's not to say that there isn't sometimes very good reason for it (build quality or customer service to name but two)

There is no clearly better machine.

Nintendo gamers have played previous Nintendo games and want more of the same, I expect that the PS2 owners think likewise from their original Playstation.

MS don't have a huge fanbase to call on but are slowly but sure building one up.

Unless you're a really picky trained eye, there won't be much difference between the 3.
