i'm a complete idiot and have been for a while and i've been thinking of buy a GC or an X box so i thought were better to get an unbiased Opinion than the x box forum.

Didn't you read the disclaimer?

Get the console which has the most EXCLUSIVE games that you want to play. Both the GC and XBox have games like Turok, Burnout e.t.c. But XBox doesnt have Mario and GC doesnt have Halo. Look at the games that are exclusive to that console and see which are the ones you really want.
