First off - just want to state that this isn't meant to be a console war topic !
I read recently in an interview with Miayamoto that Nintendo's policy is not and will not ever be to release demo's of games in Europe for people to try out. I could understand the logic when Nintendo were only using carts, but the productions costs for the new discs are considerably cheaper and must make demo's financially viable.
The reason for this topic ? Timesplitters 2.
I own a PS2 and a Gamecube and I will be buying this game. My dilema with a game such as this is which version to buy - PS2 or GC ?
I recently bought the official PS2 magazine which included the Timesplitters 2 demo and it was superb. The main thing that I noticed from playing the demo was how good the control system was.
Now - not being able to actually play a demo on the GC I cannot compare the two and decide in my mind which one will be the best for me to play. I would assume that the GC version should look better - but will it play better ?
I don't want to risk spending out £ 40.00 on a game such as this only to be dissapointed by the fact that the control system is not fluid or intuitive enough for me to quickly get to grips with - I will therefore be buying the PS2 version.
When will Nintendo see the light and start to realise that demo's are important for future games sales - especially in these cross platform days.
Maybe with all the new extras under the GC being made behind the tall grey building, e.g. nintendo HQ, we will see some way of doing it. or maybe download from the internet when the modem comes.(ok that doesnt help with TS2 but in the future).
Miyamoto doesnt like demos as things are lickly to change and he doesnt like having people play a demo and think "oh cool ill buy that" only to find out in the finished version its completely diffrent.
Also i dislike demos as much of the time they put the best level on it and when you buy the game that one level is good but the rest dont live up to it.
Although he is getting a lot of stick about it and NOM are asking and asking for demos and him making one avaleble at Toy r us in japan may be the start of them over here?
Welcome to generation couch potato.

Lazy git ;)
PC is another matter, as I don't have to get out of my chair to play demos, I just download them. If I have to get out of my chair to read reviews and obtain demos, then I won't do so.
Not such a blow to me tbh. I can see how the younger audience might suffer from such a move, but younger audiences just buy games regardless of reviews 90% of the time. Not much impact.
