At almost every commercial break, I have seen some PSX item on an advert, and on ITV, on the footie matches, there are adverts for PSX. On the boards on the pitches, there are PSX signs. At breakdancing competitions, there are PSX signs. And where are the lucrative Nintndo signs. Ummm...?
What I am trying to say is that i hope that a great console like GameCube (I hope will be) should not suffer at the hands of mis-management like the N64. I like Nintendo, and I have an N64, but all I see are PSX adverts, mixed in with a few PC, and even less DC and Nintendo. Sega it seems have also suffered, but this is about Nintendo.
The N64 is great, you can't deny it. It might have its flaws, but the size, quality and general goodness (quite a few PSX games are too rough around the edges) has made me forgive them. But all I see is PSX marketing. I'm not complaining that much. I like a few PSX games, but it seems the N64 got off to a bad start, and I hope that GameCube will not. This time, Nintendo have Microsoft as well. They of course are huge.
I just hope that when the time comes, you will see boards saying GC and GBA on them, and adverts as frequently as PSX. If not, many more people will not realise the actual true quality of the Nintndo company.
So to all you PSX lovers out there, lucky you. But not for long. And really, the N64 and DC do have far better games and graphics. Just face it. But Sony have been clever.
Sony are a huge global business selling a whole range of products. They can afford to puge large sums of money behind marketing their products. This means that they can spend money on ensuring that their commercials are that bit more eye-catching, and can afford to show them many times a day on TV, and have large ads in newspapers and magazines.
Nintendo's budget for the Gamecube isn't going to be that different from the Dreamcast's at the moment, although Nintendo has the success of the Game Boy and Pokemon (and probably the GB Advance by next year too) to help boost their own budget, but how well this is used remains to be seen.
Nintendo and Sega seem to have learnt from Sony how to attract the more casual gamer (see Sega sponsering Arsenal after Sony sponsered the Premiership), and the Gamecube should do well if Nintendo keep a constant flow of good quality games coming, without the barren spells during spring/summer that have been common with the N64. As the Gamecube and Nintendo seem more 3rd Party friendly than the N64, I don't see why they can't accheive this.
Whereas the N64 has a load of exceptional games..Goldeneye, Zelda, ISS 98, Mario 64, etc..
And in its short time Dreamcast has done well with
Resident Evil Code Veronica, Soul Caliber, Crazy Taxi, Quake III.
SONYS Machine suceeded because nobody expected SONY to come on the seen...Half the marketing was the suprise, now hopefully this time round all Machines will be good, all will have exceptional Games, I also hope that Third Partys will support the new NINTENDO machine.
Remember half the problem with the N64 was that its launch lineup was so good with MARIO 64-breathtaking for the time, AND GOLDENEYE-just Superb...third partys got intimidated. Hopefully the Big N will get it right this Time.
