Just brought a little smile to my face :) They were just doing a little article on how fans have reacted when former players have returned...(in light of Rio's return to Elland road tomorrow)

6) Roberto Baggio goes back to Fiorentina
Fiorentina weren't fond of Juve as it was. Ten years previously, the league title had gone down to the very last game, with (adopts pompous Brian Glanville voice) 'La Viola' and 'The Old Lady' level on points at the top. At half time, both their games were goalless and the championship was heading for a play-off. Suddenly - in an amazing coincidence - Fiorentina had a goal disallowed and Juventus were awarded, and netted, a hugely dodgy penalty. Juve were champions and Florence exploded into riots at the perceived corruption. Fiorentina have hated the Turin outfit ever since.

So when Fiorentina favourite Baggio was sold to Juve for a then-record £8m in 1990, the fans went ballistic again. Baggio's first visit to Florence with Juve required a massive police operation and, sure enough, the fans' abuse for their former favourite was spectacular. However, at least Fiorentina were leading in the match… until Juventus got a second-half penalty.

Baggio, who had been taking Juventus' spot-kicks all season, turned his back and refused to take it. Coach Luigi Maifredi, not understandably, hit the proverbial roof and immediately hauled his traitorous forward off. Stand-in penalty taker Luigi De Agostini missing probably didn't help the gaffer's mood much, either.

As he left the field, someone chucked a Fiorentina scarf at Baggio. The great man picked it up and clutched it to himself - while still wearing the famous black and white. The Fiorentina crowd loved it - and he returned to icon status immediately.
